Role Description

Speakeasy is a specialist charity that offers support, therapy and opportunity to people affected by aphasia – a communication difficulty after stroke or brain injury. We focusing on developing and enhancing confidence and skills and peer support; working closely with individuals and small groups with aphasia. Our volunteers support people to join in conversations, develop skills and confidence and work towards individual goals.

Type of Activity: Ongoing, Suitable for individuals to apply, In person volunteering

Suitability: Suitable for 18 year olds and over

Time commitment

Minimum one Tuesday morning a fortnight with potential for involvement in other activities too.

Role Location: Some opportunities to volunteer across Greater Manchester or from home as well as at our main location in Ramsbottom.

You will receive

Induction and training, Regular support supervision, Volunteer Handbook, Travel expenses, Volunteer policy

Volunteers are asked to complete or provide: Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Reference(s), Informal discussion (may include an interview)
Activities: Other (please specify), We offer a range of activities to develop confidence and skills, practice communication and encourage mental and physical wellbeing. These are mostly group based.
Skills: Admin, Basic IT, Language Skills, Reading and Writing, Other (please specify), The above skills may help but no previous experience needed (although useful) as training will be provided. However excellent listening and communication skills, an interest in this area and/or a willingness to learn more about aphasia and Speakeasy’s ethos is essential.
