Oasis Afternoon Teas Front of House Volunteers

at The Oasis Project @ Whitefield Methodist Church

Role Description

Oasis Afternoon Teas began in March 2017 and they are held on the first and third Tuesday afternoon of each month. The session starts at 2pm and finishes at 3pm, while preparation and putting away doubles this time. The initial aim was to serve teas to older people in the church, later extending it to the wider community providing an opportunity for socialising and fun for church and community. The numbers attending have grown steadily reaching 40+ in 2025.

Comments from those attending suggest that they enjoy and value the sessions and most people who come are regular attenders. There is always a happy buzz of conversation and many have made new friends within the group. Volunteers try to socialise with attendees, offering friendship and support. As well as a very ample afternoon tea (for a very reasonable £5), there is a quiz, a simple bingo game and the opportunity later in the afternoon to play table top games such as cards, dominoes and scrabble.
